Photos: All-New IFC Comedy Series Z ROCK Captures the Antics, Humor, and Angst of a Real Rock Band from New York

Catch the Women, the Gigs, the Celebs and More
Sundays @ 11:30 PM ET/PT - Premieres August 24, 2008

NEW YORK, Aug. 22 -- Original series Z ROCK is coming to
IFC uncensored, uncut and commercial free on Sunday, August 24 for ten
hilarious episodes. Are you ready to ROCK?!?!

To opinion the Multimedia News Release, go to:
http://www.prnewswire.com/mnr/ifctv/34643/

This semi-scripted comedy series follows a group of musicians leading a
double life: by night they're a hard-partying rock band, by daylight a
Wiggles-style kids' birthday band. Z ROCK is loosely based on the real
lives of its three New York based stars, brothers Paulie Z and David Z, and
ally Joey Cassata who form an actual band, Z02.

The series explores the dark underbelly of the rock n' roll dream,
giving its audience a back stage pass to the band's struggles to become
rock royalty, which is a great deal interrupted by pangs of reality -- hangovers,
dressing techniques, kids' birthday parties, and avoiding scorned female
fans and their angry husbands. Like the truthful rock gods they aspire to
become, the band snags pot of insatiable groupies and moms gone wild
along the way, with screaming and sometimes cringe-worthy results.

Series highlights include recurring guest appearances by comedic icon
Joan Rivers, comedians Dave Attell, Greg Giraldo, Gilbert Gottfried, with
musicians Dave Navarro (Jane's Addiction) and John Popper (Blues Traveler).
Sebastian Bach (Skid Row), Dee Snider (Twisted Sister), Chris Barron (Spin
Doctors) and comedian Patrice Oneal also join the mayhem.

"This show is so hip -- and that's the number one time in 40 age I've aforesaid
the word hip non followed by replacement," said Joan Rivers. "I'm thrilled
to get a revenant role on Z ROCK. This is the number 1 time in 20 years
three single guys want to see me every week. These are the cutest boys in
the music manufacture, so long as you don't calculate in Michael Jackson's
bedroom."

Z ROCK is a co-production of IFC, Starz Media and MarkMark Productions.

Alcohol Dependence And Hispanics

A large survey conducted by researchers at The University of Texas School of Public Health Dallas Regional Campus, which examined alcohol abuse and dependence among Hispanic male populations in the United States, will be expanded to Mexican males living along the U.S.-Mexico border. The expansion is supported by a $1.5 million grant from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Researchers will survey 1,500 Mexican-American males living on the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California to examine their alcohol consumption and behavior. This research will then be compared with the sample of 1,500 Mexican Americans in Los Angeles and Houston who were surveyed as part of previous research.

"The border population is particularly interesting because it is exposed to underage drinking options, with Mexico's legal drinking age being 18," says Raul Caetano, M.D., Ph.D., regional dean of the UT School of Public Health Dallas Regional Campus. "Along with age, we will be considering other factors such as religious affiliation, the Mexican culture's influence, the cost of drinking and male/female behavior comparisons."

The researchers will explore the difference in the Mexican border population as compared to that of the non-border population. The acculturation of the non-border population will also be considered as a factor when examining Catholic or Protestant religious affiliation.

The original survey was funded by a $5 million grant from the NIH and examined various Hispanic populations in the United States and their rate of alcohol consumption. In the first survey, the Mexican-American and Puerto Rican populations had higher rates of alcohol dependence than South Central and Cuban Americans. For instance, Mexican and Puerto Ricans men had a 15 percent rate of alcohol dependence, whereas Cubans and South Central Americans showed 5 percent and 9 percent dependence, respectively. As a whole, the U.S. male population has 5 percent alcohol dependence.

The fieldwork for the new survey will be carried out by the Public Policy Research Institute of Texas A&M University through a contract with the UT School of Public Health and will be conducted within the next six months.

Synthesizer experimentalist and musique concrète producer Asmus Tietchens began recording in the mid-'60s and continued to book 3 decades after that. Born in 1947 and based in Hamburg, Tietchens listened to German radio as a child and heard pioneering electrical transmissions by the likes of Stockhausen and Gottfried Michael Koenig. He began recording his own home experiments in 1965 with rough reverb devices and picked up a MiniMoog several years later. Also influenced by unkeyed Kraut-rockers like Cluster and Faust, Tietchens met Okko Bekker and began a partnership that lasted for decades (Bekker has produced well-nigh of Tietchens' go). After Tangerine Dream's Peter Baumann heard a tape of his act, he produced Tietchens' debut album Nachtstücke, released in 1980 on Sky Records. His tetrad albums for Sky during the early '80s focused on surprisingly accessible electronic pop, though 1984's Formen Letzter Hausmusik (recorded for Nurse with Wound's United Dairies label) began a time period of more than abstract, concrète recordings that often use taping experiments as well as synthesizers. During the '90s, Tietchens recorded for experimental labels Barooni, Staalplaat and Syrenia, the latter a 1996 collaboration with Vidna Obmana. Since 1990, he has likewise taught legal at a Hamburg university.
